Ok…. so I have a real issue with silence.
I always have, I struggle to do any mundane tasks in silence, so much so that if my battery on my phone goes and I am unable to listen to anything whilst doing the housework, the housework simply can’t be done.
As you already know, I am all about maximising my time and being as productive as possible, which is why audibles are my “go-to”.
Audibles have helped me grow my business on a budget. Every book has been helpful in some way, even if I have taken one little snippet of advice.
In 2023 I decided to carefully curate my audible library, and it has made a hell of a difference to my business growth.
I have listened to Audiobooks for years now.
In the first few years, I was filled with hope and then felt like a failure when I failed to complete the tasks mentioned in some of the self-development books.
When I delved a little deeper, I found the ones that were a challenge were created by men.
Now, I mean absolutely no disrespect to these incredibly talented males, BUT I had to accept that their lives are extremely different to mine.
I can’t take all the steps they can because… to put it quite simply, I am trying to make food, run a household and keep my children alive.
I had to remind myself that the men who create some of these books don’t have to lie next to a cot to get their little ones to sleep at night.
I had to remind myself that they don’t have to play hide and seek with their kids just to be able to eat a chocolate bar all to themselves.
I had to remind myself that they can probably pee alone…without fingers appearing under the bathroom door.
I mean, why did I spend years comparing myself to these people?
One book I previously read has 6 steps you should do every morning to be successful
This is what it said;
1. Silence.
Start every morning with a period of purposeful silence of at least 5 minutes.
My first thought on the above is to say “I wish”, I often wake up to ear piercing screams of “mummy… mummy”…. So that one isn’t possible… NEXT
2. Affirmations.
Program yourself to be confident and successful in everything you do
My usual affirmations are “Eat your breakfast” and “Where’s your shoes?….” “Did you do your homework” followed by “WHERE DID YOU TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF LAST NIGHT?” with the occasional “F**ck my life” under my breath… Do these count as affirmations?
3. Visualisation.
Imagine what you want to achieve and mentally rehearse what you’ll need to do to achieve it.
I regularly visualise a morning routine with no tears, no tantrums, and no kick offs but that doesn’t seem to help.
4. Exercise.
If exercise counts as picking up everyone’s crap from the different rooms before I leave the house, then yes… sure, I do that one.
5. Reading.
Reading? Are you serious? How long do you think my morning is? The toddler is headbutting the floor, the son is losing his mind because his Nintendo isn’t charged, and here I am sat reading… I mean, seriously?
6. Scribing.
Sure… whilst I am battling through the morning routine, wondering when it will finally be over… I will just sit at my desk and write a little.
This year I decided that I wanted to read books that didn’t tell me I had to get up at 4 am to create a six-figure business.
This year, I decided I wanted books that focused on mindset and realistic tasks that I can achieve as a busy mum of 2 trying to eat well, do the laundry, keep fit, stay in a loving relationship and socialise with friends… I mean, honestly.
This year I have listened to lots of books, and I have created a round-up of the ones that have the biggest impact on my business and income without having to get up at ridiculous hours.
This book is perfect if you are feeling burnt out by the constant hustle in business. This book is light-hearted but insightful, this book reminded me that running a business doesn’t have to be hard, and it gave me more confidence to raise my prices based on my experience.
Rich Dad Poor Dad is Robert’s story of growing up with two dads — his real father and the father of his best friend, his rich dad — and the ways in which both men shaped his thoughts about money and investing. The book explodes the myth that you need to earn a high income to be rich and explains the difference between working for money and having your money work for you.Rich Dad Poor Dad is Robert’s story of growing up with two dads — his real father and the father of his best friend, his rich dad — and the ways in which both men shaped his thoughts about money and investing. This year was the third time I had read this book, I read this every time I reach an income plateau, and it helps me overcome whatever is holding me back.
I recommend this book if you are at a stumbling block.
A brilliant book for breaking through your money blogs and a great starting point if you want to manifest more abundance.
A great book for beating procrastination. Granted the book goes through the same rule but the way Mel talk about how this rule changed her life was inspiring.
A great book if you are launching something soon, I enjoyed this book so much I enrolled on Jeff’s product launch formula so I can teach my clients how to launch effectively for maximum success.
Only 10 percent of the world’s millionaires are women, making it difficult for women to wield the economic power that will create lasting equality. Whatever is stopping you from having seven figures in the bank―whether it’s shaky confidence, knowledge gaps when it comes to wealth-building tactics, imposter syndrome, a janky mindset about money (it’s okay, we’ve all been there!), or simply not knowing where to begin―this book shows you how to clear every obstacle in your way, show up, and glow up.
